Australia Day 2024
What better way to celebrate Australia Day than by cooking up a classic Aussie BBQ with fellow members of Rotary?
The Rotary Club of Cairns West cooked 1200 sausages for the Cairns Regional Council Australia Day “Family Fun Day” event at the Tobruk Memorial Pool on Friday 26th January 2024 from 9am to 12pm.
“A great day was had by all our members who attended to cook and serve”.
The Cairns Regional Council provided the sausages, onions & bread whilst the Rotary Club of Cairns West supplied the expertise and equipment to cook up 1200 sausages in the space of 3 hours!
“We ran out of sausages at 11.50am – perfect timing considering the event was due to finish at 12pm”.
This free event was open to all, with most attendees being families with young children who enjoyed the use of the pool and equipment. The pool was equiped with obstacle courses, paddle boards & various activities ran by the pool lifeguards & council employees.
“The weather turned out to be perfect, we were a bit concerned whilst setting up Thursday afternoon given the weather and cyclone down south in Townsville. We woke up bright and early Friday morning to sun shining and blue skies – perfect weather for an Aussie BBQ”.
Many hands make light work, we were fortunate to have twelve of our members/honourary members volunteer at this event – this created an efficient system to cook and serve members of the public. Giving back to the community is a shared passion of all Rotarians and the Rotary Club of Cairns West in particularly enjoys our catering events. We look forward to cooking up at next years Australia Day Celebrations.
