National Youth Science Forum 2024
Tonight at the Rotary Club of Cairns West meeting we had the pleasure of listening to Bartholomew Cheng talk about his experience at the recent National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) and his aspirations to become a Clinician Scientist.
Our Club sponsored Bartholomew’s attendance at the NYSF and provided financial contributions for the associated costs and travel to Canberra.
Bartholomew is a Year 12 student of Cairns State High School where he is the President of the School Council, School Captain and Year 12 representative of the School Council.
NYSF was founded in 1984 with Rotary Australia as the founding partner. Rotary has been instrumental in encouraging academically high achieving science and engineering students to travel to Canberra in January each year to attend a Science Summer School (now NYSF).
Students are selected from Grade 11 by Rotary Clubs to attend the NYSF program at Australian National University (and recently at University of Queensland) in the January of their final year at school.
The program is designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields.
We look forward to seeing Bartholomew graduate Year 12 and to see where his career takes him.
