Supplies to Holloways Beach & Machan Beach Hub’s
Cairns and the surrounding Far North Queensland towns were heavily impacted by flooding events which occurred in December 2023 post tropical cyclone Jasper; officially the worst flooding event the region has ever seen since records have been recorded.
This has seen a large number of residents and businesses within the region affected, from long term power outages, flood inundated homes, loss of possessions including furniture and appliances, loss of income due to unable to work, mental and physical health conditions.
There are still residents within Cairns relying on the use of generators! Not to mention residents who are living in flood affected homes without functional kitchens and minimal furniture.
The community has come together to support one another in these difficult times. There has been two community operated hubs which have been providing assistance since day one; these being the Holloways Hub Volunteer Donation Crew and the Machans Beach Hub.These hubs have provided a central base for residences to collect supplies which has been donated by individuals, businesses and local charity groups.
The Rotary Club of Cairns West has donated throughout the hubs items and cooked meals, including another delivery of supplies today to both the Holloways Beach Hub & the Machans Beach Hub. Today’s supplies came about after receiving a request from the hubs for additional supplies, we donated a large quantity of toilet paper along with some groceries.
All the Rotary Clubs in Cairns have provided support to the hubs and the community throughout the recovery. The Rotary Clubs of Cairns have teamed up together and we are raising funds through RAWCS – Rotary Australia World Community Service to then distribute to members of the community; we are currently offering the below to those impacted by the floods:
– $500 gift card
– $1000 towards purchase of furniture
Another initiative has been Rise N Thrive workshops, which is a FREE mental health workshop to assist with the recovery and victims mental health.
We ask if you can, please make a donation to RAWCS so that we can continue to provide these initiatives and financial support. All donations to RAWCS are tax deductible and can be donated through the below link:
